The Houston SPCA is preparing a big Texas welcome for 30 Chihuahuas traveling from Los Angeles.

A total of 30 Chihuahuas and other small mixed breeds will arrive at Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport in groups of 10. The SPCA said the airfare for the Chihuahuas was made possible thanks to the generosity of Continental Airlines.

"Whether it is saving animals from earthquakes, fires, or hurricanes or transporting exotic animals like Betsy Bear across the globe, the Houston SPCA has enjoyed a life-saving partnership with Continental Airlines and spcaLA. We are thrilled to be joining forces with these friends once again to give animals in need a chance at a new life in the great state of Texas," said Patricia E. Mercer, Houston SPCA President.

Chihuahuas are very popular pets in the Los Angeles area, with large numbers of them competing for homes at local shelters. While it may take months for these dogs to find homes on the West Coast, the agency said they are typically adopted within a matter of hours when they head to out-of-state shelters.
