HUNTSVILLE, TX (KTRK) -- Officials at Sam Houston State University evacuated the chemistry and forensic science building due to a chemical spill in the building.
A spokesperson for the university said that shortly before 8am Tuesday a bottle of bromine was knocked over as students were preparing to do a lab in the building. The bromine is in liquid form, but turns to gas rather quickly. The building's safety officer was notified and they went through standard procedure and evacuated the building. Huntsville Fire Department's Hazmat team cleaned up the spill and will continue to monitor the air.
