A Seabrook resident who heroically braved a fire to warn his neighbors has died.

The 4-alarm fire ripped through the Emerald Shores apartments last month. Valeriy Aloehin of Russia died on Sunday in Galveston, after sustaining burns to 70 percent of his body.

Residents said the 33-year-old Aloehin ran from unit to unit, knocking on residents' doors to warn them about the fire before finally running to safety.

"He's my angel. He's all of our angels," one resident said about Aloehin after the blaze.

No one else was seriously injured.

Investigators believe the flames started from a grease fire and spread to other units. Part of the building that was damaged by the fire was torn down.
