Prisoner's girlfriend arrested in his escape
HUNTSVILLE, TX (KTRK) -- Authorities have arrested a woman in connection with her boyfriend's escape from the Walker County Jail.Escapee Trent De'Ray Archie's girlfriend, Latoya Marsha Wright, 27, is behind bars on $1 million bond for her alleged role in his escape. Investigators say Wright stood by her man, even broke the law for him by helping him escape. Now she's in trouble too. Investigators say Archie, 29, and Wright may have planned his escape for as long as three weeks. "We believe that she assisted him in his escape from the Walker County Jail with the vehicle and other items that she had," said Chief Deputy Butch Davis of the Walker County Sheriff's Office. That vehicle was the Toyota Camry that Archie allegedly used to drive away. It still has not been found. "We still have not located the car. We still do not have a license plate on the car. And we don't know whether it was a rental car or whether it was a purchased car," Chief Davis said. The Walker Co. Sheriff's Office says so far, none of the sightings of Archie in Harris County or elsewhere have been confirmed. They say the search is focused mostly on Harris County, and that about 50 people are searching across Waller, Montgomery and Harris counties. The Texas Rangers are still looking at other people who may have been involved in helping him to escape. And law enforcement officers say if Archie is spotted, he is armed and should not be approached. Instead, they say call authorities. "I'd be glad for anybody to help us get him caught. We want him back in custody," said Chief Davis. Community activist says he spoke to Archie Community activist Quannel X says he has been in contact with Archie and he was going to turn himself in, but we're told Archie apparently missed a 2pm phone call with Quannel X. Police are looking for Archie, 29, who escaped from the Walker County jail about 3am Tuesday. Law enforcement ranging from the Walker County Sheriff's Office to the Texas Rangers are involved in this search for the man they consider armed and dangerous.
According to officials, Archie was out of his cell to make a phone call to his mother, but instead he overpowered a jailer and pushed past two more guards, got a door unlocked and fled the building.
Archie was spotted in the Forest Hills subdivision and his jail clothes were found in the neighborhood, but hasn't been seen since. He's from Huntsville.Law enforcement says they continue to get leads from the public and Quannel X told us that Archie called him Tuesday wanting to turn himself in. Quannel X said he expects Archie to call him today in order to arrange a surrender to the Texas Rangers. The search for Archie has spread beyond Huntsville. "We're searching out of Walker County right now. We have teams down in Harris County doing some follow-up work down there, " said Chief Deputy Butch Davis of the Walker Co. Sheriff's Office. "We're working very close with the Gulf Coast Regional Offenders Task Force and they're the one that's in charge of the investigation down in Harris County." Archie was being held in the Walker County Jail on a drug possession charge. He had been granted a new trial after having a 2006 murder conviction overturned, but his mother told Eyewitness News that he still felt like he wasn't getting a fair shake on other charges against him. "I just want him to know that I love him and to come back and fight this the right way, the correct way," said Jackie Archie. Archie stands 6-foot-1 and weighs about 190 pounds. He has brown eyes and was wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts. Archie has a dragon tattoo on his right arm stretching from his elbow down to his wrist. If you have information on Archie, you can call 911 or the Walker County Sheriff's Office. You also may be eligible for a cash reward by calling Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. Callers may disclose location of the fugitive, an address, or a neighborhood where he is hiding. Stay with Eyewitness News and abc13.com for the latest on this story.
