Thousands of participants came out to the 2011 Run for the Rose at Reliant Park on Sunday, April 10. Proceeds benefit the Dr. Marnie Rose Foundation, supporting brain cancer research.
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- About 5,000 Houston area residents hit the pavement Sunday in the annual Run for the Rose.
The run is organized by the Rose Foundation, named in honor Dr. Marnie Rose, a Houston physician who died of a brain tumor in 2002.
The event raises money for drug trials at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and neuroscience research at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital.
The race started at Reliant Stadium and included a 5K run/walk and a 1K family run/walk. It was followed by a post-race party in Reliant Center with food, entertainment, activities for children and an award presentation.
Eyewitness News is a sponsor of the run, which has raised $3 million so far. This year, they raised $526,000, surpassing their goal of $460,000.
