Just how pricy is the city of Houston?

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- If you think the cost of living in Houston is high, a new survey may help you feel a little better.

Yes, the Bayou City made Mercer's list of priciest cities worldwide. It tied Lusaka, Zambia for the 144 spot in the Cost of Living Survey. But last year, the city ranked at 143, so it's dropped one spot.

Even more good news -- Houston is still quite a bit cheaper than some of the other major US cities. New York ranked 33 on the list, followed by Los Angeles (68), San Francisco (90), White Plains, NY (98), Washington, DC (107) and Chicago and Miami tied at 110.

Mercer's list compares the cost of living in 214 cities all across the globe. The company compared more than 200 items, including transportation, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment, to come up with its survey.

So what is the most expensive city in the world? Tokyo, according to Mercer. It topped Luanda, Angola -- which fell to the No. 2 position this year.

Mercer says Karachi, Pakistan is the least expensive city.
