Puerto Rican convicted in Texas in fake drugs case

  

HOUSTON -- A Puerto Rican man accused of selling fake drugs in Texas has been convicted of a dozen counts related to counterfeit prescriptions.

Sentencing has been scheduled for Aug. 30 in Houston for 41-year-old Luis Angel Garcia Torres of Patillas, Puerto Rico.

A federal jury Thursday convicted Torres of conspiring to traffic in counterfeit goods, causing the introduction of misbranded prescription drugs and causing the introduction of counterfeit prescription drugs into interstate commerce.

He was also convicted of trafficking in counterfeit goods, plus misdemeanor counts on misbranded drugs and fake trademarks.

Undercover investigators determined Torres in 2010 used the Internet to obtain and distribute counterfeit drugs for erectile dysfunction.

Torres faces up to 10 years in prison and a $2 million fine. He's free on bond.
