FBI investigating multiple bank robberies

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Federal investigators have their hands full as they responded to four robberies at banks and a check-cashing business Monday.

It's not known if any of the robberies are connected. But two of them were close to each other in northwest Harris County.

The first robbery happened around noon inside a Kroger at 249 and Antoine. Investigators say a man approached a teller and handed her a note demanding money. He got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot. That suspect is described as a black male, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 148-150 pounds. He was wearing a dark cap and a blue shirt.

About half an hour later, a man walked inside a bank on Highway 290 near Cypress-Rosehill and handed a teller a note demanding money. The suspect also got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the area in a stolen vehicle, which was recovered nearby. That robber was described as a dark-complexioned black male, in his late 20s to early 30s. He is between 5 feet 5 inches and 6 feet tall and 200 pounds .

As police were investigating the second robbery, a third was reported at a check-cashing business off Stuebner Airline and FM 1960. There, three men walked into a Western Union and held a gun to the heads of at least two people. The men reportedly didn't get away with a lot of cash, but the victim's husband says she was very traumatized.

"I want to say that she was blessed because of the fact that she had just put her money through the window and then they put the gun to her head. They had a gun to her head and they had a gun to everybody else's head," said Ed Webster, the victim's husband. "I'm from New Orleans, man. This stuff happens but my wife can't really take it, she can't really take it."

A third bank robbery was at the Wells Fargo on Voss near Woodway in southwest Houston. The FBI says two armed men were involved in what they called a take-over style robbery.

The men did get away with some cash, but no one was injured. They drove off in a stolen vehicle that was recovered a short distance away.

Investigators say they do not have any pictures to release yet.
