Former St. Thomas HS coach charged with possessing child porn appears in court

  

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A former Saint Thomas High School wrestling coach accused of possessing child pornography was in court Monday morning.

Investigators say they found over 2,000 pictures and videos stored on Gordon Oehmig's home computer, mainly of young boys. After his arrest last week, Oehmig resigned from his position at St. Thomas.

St. Thomas HS released a statement saying it is their understanding that none of the allegations involve students or the use of school property. But police urge parents to talk to their children about the incident.

In court Monday morning, a judge put restrictions on Oehmig's bail. He is not allowed to be around children and is restricted from using the Internet.

Oehmig's attorney, Dick DeGeurin, made a brief statement after his client's court appearance.

"Well, it's too early to know all of the facts but the thing that concerns me about the Internet nowadays is how easy it is for even someone out of curiosity to get on their computer and it's there forever. Stuff that is illegal," said DeGeurin. "I mean you can turn on your computer right now and access illegal pornography and the law doesn't make any distinction between it. It's a zero tolerance law and that concerns me."

Oehmig faces five felony counts that carry up to 10 years in prison each.
