A Bellaire police corporal shot and killed during a police chase on Christmas Eve has been posthumously promoted to sergeant.

The Bellaire Police Department says Jimmie Norman was going to be promoted at the first of the year. After his death, they decided it was the right thing to do.

Norman and an innocent bystander, Terry Taylor, were shot and killed on Monday. The suspect, Harlem Lewis, remains hospitalized, charged with capital murder of a police officer and murder.

Visitation for Norman is Friday at Bellaire Central Baptist Church from 3pm to 7pm. His funeral is Saturday at 2pm at Houston's First Baptist Church.
