HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A horrifying experience for a woman in northwest Houston -- attacked, threated with her life, robbed and sexually assaulted. Now police are hunting for the man responsible.
"A male comes up out of nowhere and starts punching her face and he takes her back inside," said Sr. Officer Orus Baldwin with the Houston Police Department.
The attack happened Friday morning as the victim was leaving her home for work. We spoke to the victim's relatives. They want to know who would do something so sick to a 62-year-old grandmother -- and why.
"This is beyond belief," said Dennis Malone, a friend of the victim.
Beyond belief and all imagination -- it's the only way to describe what police say happened to a 62-year-old grandmother around 8am Friday at her own house.
Officer Baldwin said, "He had a gun and he had a knife. He ends up getting her down on the floor, and he starts strangling her and he sexually assaulted her."
Investigators say as the woman walked to her car to leave for work, she was intercepted by an attacker.
"Abused, mistreated, jumped on, hit everything," said a relative of the victim.
Her family agreed to speak with us but didn't want to show their faces or be identified.
A relative said, "It just makes me mad for somebody to take advantage of a person who is 62 years old."
During the attack, the gunman ransacked the house, demanding money and jewelry. Police say he got away with at least one ring.
"I would love for everybody to catch him," the relative added. "I would love for y'all to bring him by my house and leave for 30 minutes."
As police canvass the neighborhood for the suspect...
"We've checked the woods, we've checked abandoned houses," Officer Baldwin said.
Friends and family thank God the woman will recover.
"Hope she'll be alright, though," Malone said. "From what they say, she'll be OK."
The victim was taken to Northwest Memorial Hospital with facial and other injuries.
The suspect has not been arrested. Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
