Police: Team of young alleged burglars may be behind series of break-ins

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police believe a group of young people may be behind a string of break-ins in northwest Houston.

The group was detained after a break-in near Roaring Point Drive and Storm Creek Drive.

Houston police believe this group of burglars is responsible for as many as 10 burglaries in the Inwood Forest Village neighborhood.

Watching his family play in the yard Friday night, neighbor Jasmon Jordan was both entertained and at ease.

"We're glad it's taken care of, and we're glad we can be at peace now knowing that the situation has ended," he said.

SkyEye13 HD hovered over what Houston police believe to be the end of a burglary spree Friday afternoon. Several suspects were at the scene -- one as old as 22, and one not even 10 and dressed in pajama bottoms when he was taken away.

Police say a teenage girl was home alone around 2:3pm when she saw intruders coming into her house on Roaring Point. She ran out for help, and when police arrived, they were able to catch some of the suspects and confiscate the loot.

Officers sorted through DVDs, laptops, game systems as well as Air Jordans. It was all stolen property from as many as 10 break-ins in the Inwood Forest Village subdivision.

Residents in the area say they have seen them around the neighborhood, especially the ones who are very young.

Police believe the older suspects recruited the younger ones to gain access into homes by crawling through windows.

It's an alleged lifestyle in stark contrast to Jordan's Friday night family fun.

"It's really sad to know that young children were involved," Jordan said. "They could be doing something much better with their time."

Officials tell us the teen girl was not hurt during the break-in. The suspects were still being interviewed Friday night.
