SE Houston neighborhood on alert after pack of dogs kills woman's cat
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A southeast Houston neighborhood is on alert after a pack of dogs attacked and killed a woman's pet cat.
It happened early Saturday in the Clearwood Crossing subdivision on Blackhawk at Fugue. Surveillance cameras caught the vicious attack on video. The video shows a woman's cats running into her front yard. Seconds later, the dogs showed up.
One of the cats raced up a tree. What happened to the other cat was too gruesome to show on television or on our website. For two and a half minutes, six dogs viciously mauled him to death.
The pack then circled the tree, waiting for the other cat to come down.
The cats' owner, Juanita Jennings, is in shock.
"Six of them. He was trying to run them off, but of course he couldn't," Jennings said.
Jennings buried her cat, Cayman, in the back yard, placing two pink roses on top of his body.
Her other cat, Lucky, is inside now.
"They were always together. If one came in before the other, he would stay at the door," she said. "One or the other until the other one came in. Always."
Jennings says she's never seen these dogs in her subdivision before, and she worries they're here to stay.
"It could be a baby next time. It could be your grandmother next time," she said. "Evidently, they come at night and they're getting braver because it was 5:45 this morning, so it was starting to get lighter."
Now, the homeowners association here is coming together to protect this family-friendly area.
"We've been knocking on doors," said Rhonda Harmon with the HOA. "Especially those neighbors that we know have dogs, and letting them know that there is a pack of dogs loose and you need to protect your dogs until we can see what animal control is going to do about it."
We reached out to animal control officials Saturday night, who told us they are looking into the problem.
