Man wanted in KS homicides booked in TX

MANHATTAN, KS -- A man who was wanted for first-degree murder in the deaths of a woman and her toddler son has been arrested in Austin, Kansas police said.

Riley County Police Department director Bradley Schoen said Monday that Luis Antonio Aguirre, 22, is being held in jail in Austin, on $2.5 million bond.

Schoen identified the victims as Tanya Carmen Lydia Maldonado, 18, and her 15-month-old son, Juan Luis Maldonado. Their last known address was in Chicago. The Topeka Capital-Journal reported that Schoen said the Maldonado had a relationship with Aguirre, who apparently fled to Texas after the deaths.

A hunter discovered the bodies Oct. 25 in shallow graves in a field northeast of Ogden.

A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Texas to extradite Aguirre to Kansas.
