DALLAS, TX -- A 22-year-old Dallas man has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for aiming a green laser beam at a Dallas police helicopter.
Prosecutors say Kenneth Santodomingo, who has used at least two aliases in the past, was sentenced in federal court Thursday. He pleaded guilty in February to aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft.
Santodomingo was arrested Jan. 28 after the beam hit the helicopter pilot's vision several times. Officers aboard the copter found where the light was coming from and directed officers on the ground to Santodomingo.
They were flying in the area searching for a burglary suspect.
Authorities say Santodomingo told officers he wanted to see how far the laser pointer could reach.
He's been in custody since his arrest.
