Texas international exports up 3% in 2013

AUSTIN, TX -- Texas exports to overseas markets were up 3 percent in the first half of 2013.

The International Trade Association said Thursday that Texas shipped $134.4 billion worth of merchandise between January and June.

Undersecretary of Commerce Francisco Sanchez said the U.S. was exporting more goods than ever before. The Department of Commerce said Texas' top exports include petroleum products, computers, chemical, machinery and transportation equipment.

Exports to Colombia grew the fastest over 2012, jumping 40 percent. Other big gains included Venezuela, Taiwan and Mexico, the state's largest trade partner. Canada and China are the other top markets for Texas goods.

More than 40,000 companies export good from Texas.
