BARDWELL, TX -- Investigators say two people have died in the fiery crash of a small plane into a North Texas field.
The Department of Public Safety says the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. Sunday in Ellis County. Sgt. Lonny Haschel says the site is near Bardwell, about 35 miles south of Dallas.
Haschel says witnesses said the single-engine Beechcraft leveled off as if to make an emergency landing but appeared to stall and crashed into a tree.
Authorities are trying to determine what caused the accident.
Names of the victims weren't immediately released. Nobody else was on board.
