HOUSTON (KTRK) -- NASA scientists have just released video of a powerful explosion on the moon.
Scientists say the blast actually happened on March 17, when a meteoroid struck the moon at speeds of 56,000 miles-an-hour. They said the impact was so powerful, a bright light could be seen on Earth with the naked eye.
NASA has been studying the moon for such explosions for the past eight years. It's part of a program that allows astronomers to identify and examine space debris that could be threatening to Earth.
NASA says it's seen hundreds of detectable meteor strikes on the moon yearly.
