Katy Freeway shut down due to serious accident

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

What started as a minor accident led to a serious wreck in west Houston, critically injuring two people.

Police stopped traffic on the Katy Freeway near Gessner early this morning to clear the minor accident. A Toyota driver didn't see the closure and rear ended another vehicle. Then a truck following behind slammed into the Toyota, crushing the car.

The two passengers in the Toyota were cut out of the car and rushed to the hospital. The truck driver also had to be freed, but he was not injured.

All outbound lanes were shut down during rush hour and it caused a traffic nightmare for commuters. It took crews several hours to clear the accident.
