Several cars damaged after debris collapses from condos

Monday, March 12, 2007

This morning's storm sent bricks crashing down on cars at an apartment complex in southwest Houston. Fortunately no one was hurt, but now there is a fear a second wall could collapse.

It happened on Sandpiper near West Airport in southwest Houston. When the storms passed through residents at the Pipers Crossing condominiums were most concerned about hail damage, but no one expected an entire brick wall to collapse with the storms. Bricks from the side of the building started falling on nearby cars.

One resident was woken up after strong winds ripped through a window to her second floor bedroom. She wasn't hurt and everyone around her considers her fortunate.

"Good thing nobody was hurt," said one resident.

At least four cars suffered severe damage. Bricks punctured through some of the vehicles' windshields.

Residents say that another brick wall similar to the one that collapsed could also have some damage. They say there are a lot of cracks in the walls so they are worried that those walls are also unstable.
