Bill, an eight-time Emmy award winner for "Outstanding On-Camera Achievement in Weather Broadcasting", also broadcasts the weather on WCGH Business Talk AM 1490 Radio in Greenwich, CT. He also does the weather on radio for The ABC Radio Network and ESPN, as well as filling in on "Good Morning America" and has appeared on "Live with Regis and Kelly".
He is also a "New York Times" best-selling author for his novel "Category 7", a techno-thriller about a hurricane bound for New York City.
Bill is most noted for his energetic and entertaining live weather broadcasts on location all over the Tri-State area, Florida, and the Caribbean. He has done the weather while playing tennis with the William's Sisters Venus and Serena, basketball with Patrick Ewing of the NY Knicks, skating with Olympic Gold Medalist Christie Yamaguci, and playing golf with Tiger Woods. In addition Bill has done the weather while water skiing around Manhattan on the Hudson and East Rivers, swimming with dolphins, underwater with sharks, seals, sea lions, and beluga whales, sky diving, playing hockey with the NY Rangers, New Jersey Devils, and the NY Islanders, NASCAR and INDYcar driving, bungee jumping, snow skiing, and flying with The Blue Angels and The Air Force Thunderbirds. Bill has also done the weather just hanging out live from his backyard!
Bill began his broadcasting career at the age of 13 in his hometown of Meridian, Mississippi as a dj on WDAL Radio and WTOK-TV where he preformed his first weathercast.
Bill is no stranger to the sound and fury of hurricanes. Growing up in Mississippi, Bill experienced first-hand the awesome power of one of the most powerful and destructive hurricanes in America's history, Hurricane Camille. He parlayed his interest in the causes and effects of severe weather into a career, going on to become an alumnus of Mississippi State University in Business Administration and Jackson State University in Meteorology. He also holds a degree from Sussex Community College in Sussex, New Jersey. In 1985 Bill was awarded two prestigious honors. He received his broadcast "Seal of Approval" from The American Meteorological Society and was named "Outstanding Meteorologist" by The National Weather Service for his forecasting and reporting during Hurricane Elena.
Bill came to New York in 1989 from Dallas where he was Meteorologist for WFAA-TV and radio morning show host for KHYI-95FM Radio. Prior to that he was Meteorologist for WALA-TV in Mobile, AL and was radio morning show host for WABB-97FM Radio. In the past Bill has played himself in "The Christmas Show" at Radio City Music Hall and played "Lumier" (the candlestick) on Broadway in Disney's "Beauty and the Beast". He has preformed stand-up comedy on "The Punch Line Circuit", "Comedy Nation", and "Dangerfield's".
Bill is an avid fund raiser for many children's charities including Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital at Columbia Presbyterian, Special Olympics of New York, YAI The National Young Adult Institute, Junior Achievement of NY and CT, Kids in Crisis of Greenwich, CT, Ronald McDonald House of NYC, Juvenile Diabetes of NY and NJ, Mt. Vernon Hospital, NY, Boy Scouts of America, and is on the board of Leak and Watts Family and Children's Services of the Bronx and Yonkers, NY. He also raises money for The Red Cross of New York and New Jersey.
Bill also hosts "The Bill Evans Celebrity Golf Classic" to raise money in the fight against breast cancer for Breast Cancer, Inc. of Long Island. He also hosts golf tournaments to raise money for The Red Cross of New York and New Jersey, Chromes and Colitis of New York, The Simon Malls Youth Foundation, Special Olympics, The Silver Shield of Greenwich, CT, The YMCA and YWCA of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
He is a member of the Friar's Club and The Washington Speaker's Bureau.
Bill and his lovely wife Dana have four wonderful and beautiful children, oldest daughter Maggie, son William, and twin daughters Julia and Sarah.
