She's helped enact childhood eye safety laws in Baltimore City, which directly impact major injuries that little league baseball players incur. She's also developed a program at the Boys and Girls Clubs, promoting self-esteem, personal responsibility, and the importance of education. One of her beliefs, "With a little time and effort we all can make a difference."
Sade has continued her commitment to the community in the tri-state area. She has worked with numerous organizations, community leaders and students. After being struck by a hit and run driver while covering a story in Hackensack, New Jersey - Sade began to turn her attention to the issue of hit and runs. She partnered with AAA to get the message out about the growing issue. She was later recognized for her efforts as was presented with the NJ Governor's Representative Award for Traffic Safety.
Sade has developed a program which targets inner city students called, Get 'Reel' With Your Dreams: The Inside Track. The goal is to build self-esteem and promote a career-oriented focus for disadvantaged New York City students. Through a 'hands-on' workshop with top professionals in the film and television industry, Get Reel introduced students to a wide range of career possibilities within these fields, including but not limited to, writing, producing, directing and acting. As a reality-based initiative, the program also included the many skilled career paths including lighting, electric, hair and makeup, costume, script supervision, video and audio production.
Taught and monitored by real-world professionals in real-world working environments, students had the opportunity to see first-hand just how these jobs are done - and why - ensuring an in-depth understanding of the respective disciplines. Get Reel invites the creative student who may or may not have considered a specific career to rethink his or her approach to the future. $25,000 will be given out as scholarships to top performing students in May. Sade has partnered with New York Women in Film & Television and the Lincoln Center Institute for the program, which is expected to launch in the fall of 2008.
