WABC-TV is licensed in New York City to ABC7. It began operating on August 10, 1948, and is the most-watched TV station in the US.

ABC7 is owned by the American Broadcasting Company, Inc. The Walt Disney Company owns ABC, Inc.

There are about 6.4 million wired cable TV households within the New York DMA, representing 85 percent of the market's total TV households. WABC-TV is carried on every cable system serving the New York DMA, with virtually all of them assigning it Channel 7. Of 210 Nielsen television markets, New York is ranked #1 with 7,493,530 TV households. It is more than two times the size of the Chicago market, which is the #3 market.

ABC7 broadcasts can be seen 24 hours each day, 365 days per year. It offers a diverse mix of programs: live local and national news, talk/variety and game shows, information and entertainment, sports, movies, children's and public affairs programming.

Located just blocks from Lincoln Center, ABC7's facilities are used for the daily production of "Live with Regis and Kelly" before a live studio audience.

ABC7 produces three hours of public affairs programming weekly, each exploring issues of importance to various segments of the tri-state area's diverse viewing audience:

  • "Here and Now" - African-American
  • "New York Viewpoint" - New York residents
  • "New Jersey Viewpoint" - New Jersey residents
  • "Long Island Viewpoint" - Long Island residents
  • "Eyewitness News Up Close" - Local politics and issues

    Channel 7 is the home of "Eyewitness News. " Live local newscasts are telecast:
  • Monday-Friday - 6 hours daily (4:30am-5am, 5-6am, 6-7am, 12-1230pm, 4-6pm, 6-630pm, 11-1135pm)
  • Saturday - 4 and a half hours (6am-7am, 7-8am, 9am-10am, 6pm-6:30pm and 11pm-12:00amm)
  • Sunday - 4 and a half hours (6-7am, 7-8am, 9-10am, 6-6:30pm, 11pm-12:00am)

    The "Eyewitness News" newsroom and studios are located on Manhattan's Upper West Side.

    Only "Eyewitness News" covers the tri-state area with Newscopter 7. It is the only television station in the New York DMA to offer "Accuweather" reports. "Eyewitness News" employs a network of outdoor, strategically located cameras which instantly provide a bird's eye view of the latest-breaking traffic, weather and news stories.
