Effects of bad grammar on the web

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Kenedy Brandon is just like any other 15-year-old. She loves Facebook.

"Mostly just to talk to friends and family," says Brandon. "Just to reconnect if I don't go to school with them or they don't live around here."

And what Kenedy and her friends do online might make you cringe.

"They use it to be quick," says Brandon "They might say 'was' as 'wuz.'" They're part of a growing trend of people using bad grammar, bad punctuation and bad spelling on purpose.

"I do see they do use some of those like 'ppl' for people or 'b/c' for because or just 'cuz' for cuz," says Brandon.

Saving time is fine, until the shortcuts start creeping into professional or work-related messages or e-mail.

And what will happen to the next generation? Are they savvy enough to transition from text-talk to business speak?

"If that's the way they want to talk, then it is," says Brandon. "In papers, it's different and I focus on what I'm writing but if I'm just talking to someone, it doesn't matter.
