George Steinbrenner leaves the office of baseball commissioner Fay Vincent after a meeting July 30, 1990 in New York amidst a crush of journalists. Vincent ruled that Steinbrenner must resign as general partner of the New York Yankees by August 20. Steinbrenner will, however, be allowed to consult on major business decisions involving the Yankees, but he must ask Vincent's permission to attend games. Vincent banned Steinbrenner from baseball activities because Steinbrenner paid a gambler for information on his outfielder Dave Winfield after Winfield sued Steinbrenner for failing to pay his foundation money guaranteed in his contract. The man at right is unidentified.
