2 of 11: A black bear was spotted around Peekskill on June 15, 2008. The next day, authorities trapped the bear in a tree on Route 6. The bear was lounging across some branches about 25 feet up on the grounds of the First Hebrew Congregation of Peekskill at 1:45 p.m. A crew from the state Department of Environmental Conservation planned to shoot the bear with a tranquilizer gun so it could be removed and taken to a less populated area.
