Fire breaks out in UES high rise

Wednesday, June 17, 2009

A second alarm fire spewed smoke through an Upper East Side high rise Wednesday morning.

The blaze broke out on the ninth floor of Knickerbocker Plaza, at 1751 Second Avenue between 91st and 92nd streets, just before 6:30 a.m.

Eyewitness News is told at least two residents were being treated for injuries.

Fire shot out the windows of several apartments on the ninth floor, and heavy smoke was reported through the building.

Officials say firefighters set up a command post in the lobby of the building, which was not evacuated.

Second Avenue was closed for fire department activity.
