Sketch released of burglary suspect

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

A robbery spree mystery is brewing on Long Island. More than a dozen homes have been hit so far. The suspects drive luxury cars, and once they target your house, nothing stands in their way.

It's happening in the upscale communities of Manhasset Hills and New Hyde Park. </p

"It's been very scary," Gina Giliberto said. "All you see is a person and they're gone." </p

It seems just about everyone in Manhasset Hills has a story. And it's the kind of tale that plants the seed for urban legend. </p

"They're brazen enough to kick down front door," Giliberto said. </p

Giliberto says the burglars busted down her front door, and that's when her brother-in-law came face to face with the suspect. </p

"'He said to the burglar, 'Get out, I have two other men with me,'" she said. </p

Lisa Pugliese was home when an intruder broke through her sliding-glass door in broad daylight. The alarm went off. </p

"I just happened to peak down," she said. "And he flew out as fast as you can imagine." </p

Police say, all told, there have been more than a dozen burglaries in Manhasset Hills and North New Hyde Park since June. Now, cops have released a sketch of the suspect. And surveillance tape shows a man getting into a Mercedes, which coincides with a burglary that had just taken place near Knoll Drive. </p

So far, no one has been hurt. Authorities are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect to call Nassau County police. </p
