(New York - November 26, 2007) -- The Lincoln Center holiday tree is one step closer to shining again!
For the 8th year, the kickoff to the annual Winter's Eve celebration is expected to draw a crowd to Lincoln Center.
WABC-TV will broadcast this highly-anticipated and multi-cultural holiday celebration of light tonight. For the first time, this event will be aired in high definition. Our hosts will be Good Morning America's Sam Champion and our own Sade Baderinwa.
The tree is a 50-foot Colorado Blue Spruce that weighs more than seven tons.
The tree was planted in 1971 by Linda Werner and her late husband Stanley of Clermont, New York. It is a sister to last year's tree. The tree was cut down weeks ago and arrived in New York two weeks ago. For the second year in a row, the tree will be decorated by Wedgwood. It will have 75 to 100 oversized ornaments that are based on Wedgwood designs and design elements, depicted in the musical, theatrical and dance arts. The tree topper is a sparkling starburst, also Wedgwood's creation. Tree Lighting Ceremony:- An excerpt of the Metropolitan Opera's family production of Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel
