75th anniversary of the Bloody Mary
Monday, December 01, 2008
New York (WABC) -- When you can't bear the thought of another glass of champagne at brunch, that's what the bloody mary is for.
Monday is the 75th anniversary of the drink's creation in Manhattan back in 1933.
It was originally called the Red Snapper.
The term "bloody" was considered harsh back in the 30's.

The tag "bloody mary" finally caught on when a stiff dose of tobasco sauce was added to the drink and back in the permissive sixties the drink changed again, with the addition of celery.
