(New York-WABC, November 30, 2007) (WABC) -- When it rains it pours, to pull out news cliche number 82. And it poured breaking news this afternoon.
A man who said he had a bomb strapped to his chest walked into the campaign offices Hillary Clinton in Rochester, New Hampshire, and demanded to speak to Mrs. Clinton. And he took hostages.
At this writing, there appears to be at least one hostage in the office. It's unclear whether the Senator is heading to New Hampshire or if she has any plans to speak to him. Elected officials speaking to hostage takers isn't unprecedented. Pres. Reagan, when he went to Augusta National Golf Course in 1983, spoke to a man who took over the golf shop and held several people hostage -- including two aides to the President.
We'll have the latest on the hostage situation involving Mrs. Clinton's office, tonight at 11.
We're also following developments in the crash of an Amtrak passenger train enroute from Grand Rapids to Chicago. The locomotive derailed after it hit a freight train. More than 30 people were hurt, five of them seriously.
And in Aruba, after all the hullabaloo that cops had "solved" the murder or disappearance of American student Natalie Holloway, police have ordered the release of the Kalpoe brothers - two of the three young men who were re-arrested in the case.
Also at 11, Tappy Phillips and 7 On Your Side looks at one of the biggest furniture chains in our area. The chain has gone bankrupt. So what happens to those who have already bought furniture but have problems with it, or haven't had it delivered? Tappy has the furniture 4-1-1.
We'll also have any other breaking news of the night, plus Lee Goldberg's weekend AccuWeather forecast - including a storm on the way tomorrow night, and Scott Clark with the night's sports. I hope you can join Liz Cho and me, tonight at 11.
