Needles on the beach

Wednesday, August 08, 2012
Bill Ritters daily take on the news.

Bill Ritter's daily take on the news.

There was a time when needles on the beaches of New York City were something of a national joke. Except that it's hardly funny. But it became commonplace.

This summer, it's here. Big time. For the sixth time in the past four weeks, someone's been pricked by a hypodermic needle on a City beach. Four of the incidents have been on Staten Island. What in the world is going on? We're on the case tonight at 11.

And six new shootings in New York City late last night - the night of the National Night Out, which was designed to try to stop the violence. We're on that story as well at 11.

Also a note of thanks to the scores and scores of you who wrote in about The Conversation project we're starting at ABC. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
