A tragic turn of events

September 27, 2012 (WABC) -- We cover a lot of bizarre and tragic stories - but this one is over-the-top bizarre and tragic.

A man in Connecticut gets a call from his sister, who lives next door, and says there's a burglar in a mask trying to break in.

The man goes outside and next door, sees the man, and ends up shooting and killing him.

Now the tragedy - the burglar was his son. Just 15 years old.

We're delving into this horrible family tragedy, tonight at 11.

Also at 11, we broke the story last night about rats at what for many New Yorkers is their favorite market - Fairway. Rats in the olive bin. Rats on the floor. It bills itself as "like no other market" - and after seeing our story last night, many New Yorkers can only hope so.

Tonight the owner of Fairway talks about his efforts to clean up the markets. And we're taking a closer look at why markets aren't inspected more for health and cleanliness - like restaurants are. Jim Dolan, who broke the story last night, is on the case for us, at 11.

And Lucy Yang tonight has new information about the story she broke last week - a volunteer firefighter, fighting for his life with a horrible bacteria that is, to use the vernacular, eating him alive.

Now, he's in the hospital - trying to fight back.

And Nina Pineda tonight gets some huge results - as she chases a clergyman wanted in 3 different jurisdictions, after he bounced a check to a family owned store. The family - hurting - called Nina and got 7 On Your Side.
