February 22, 2013 (WABC) -- Get ready for Oscar. This year's Oscars figures to be big because it's been a big year for movies - the biggest box office ever at nearly $11 billion. (And how much of that is because of increased ticket prices? Some, yes.)
We've been talking in the newsroom about how watching the Oscars is now a different experience - thanks to social media. It's not like you're watching it just with your family in your home; we're now watching with all our friends and followers. And while there are many who do not participate in Tweets and posts, there are many others who do.
Will you? What are your #Oscars plans?
And while we're talking about Sunday's big show, there was fascinating NPR look at the soundtrack of the annual Academy Awards: The song "Hooray for Hollywood." It's got a big sound feel to it, but take a closer peek at the lyrics and it turns out despite the song's rep as a tribute to Hollywood, it's actually a slam. Read the lyrics and you be the judge:
"Hooray for Hollywood
That screwy, bally-hooey Hollywood
Where any office boy or young mechanic
Can be a panic, with just a good-looking pan
Where any barmaid can be a star maid
If she dances with or without a fan
Hooray for Hollywood
Where you're terrific, if you're even good
Where anyone at all from TV's Lassie
To Monroe's chassis is equally understood
Go out and try your luck, you might be Donald Duck
Hooray for Hollywood
Hooray for Hollywood
That phoney, super coney Hollywood."
Not exactly a positive anthem, but isn't it fascinating?
