A Brooklyn woman's window replacement problem

Friday, April 06, 2007

A woman from Brooklyn hired a company to replace her windows and doors, and it turned out to be more trouble than it was worth.

In fact, the work on the door was so shoddy, thieves had no trouble breaking in. That's when they turned to Seven On Your Side.

"You can see, anything can come in here, there are gaps you can stick your finger into," said Rose Campo.

Three years ago, single mother Rose Campo bought a Ft. Hamilton home. And shortly afterward, she hired Park Slope Glass and Window to install replacement windows and a new back door. And right from the beginning, Rose had her doubts.

"They came many times, maybe eight, nine times and they would do a little work her and there. But would never came up to the standards of looking like finished proper work," Rose said.

There were gaps in the front windows. The frames of the upstairs windows were not replaced and rotted wood remained. And the back door was installed so poorly that burglars broke into her house last September.

"There is no real sturdy frame on the door itself. So in reality it's very easy to come right in," she said.

Rose hired a lawyer and sued. But before the case went to trial, Rose got a call from a man who said he was had bought Park Slope Window and Glass and wanted to see her house.

"He said, it's just a botch job. And we will take care of it," she said.

He agreed to pay Rose close to twelve thousand dollars, even set up a schedule of payments.

"He signed off on it with his attorney, with my attorney and with the court. And gave us one check and that was the end of it," she said.

So Rose got Seven on her Side. We went to Park Slope Windows. One clerk passed our message on to the owner and within days ...

" They had dropped of the check at my house that morning," Rose said.

Rosemary got a check for $4200 dollars.

"I totally appreciate, you guys are awesome... couldn't have done without your help," she said.

Park Slope still owes Rose two payments of $2200 dollars. But Rose will use the money she did get to buy a new, secure back door.
