Halloween retailers bank on costume sales

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

With the economy playing trick or trick on people's wallets, will Halloween retailers get spooked?

Despite concerns from experts that sales could be soft, specialty stores are pulling out all the stops to buck the trend.

Spirit Halloween is trying to scare up costume and decoration sales any way they can. The retailer took advantage of the closing of 83 Circuit City stores and moved their merchandise right in. The large, but temporary space on the upper west side has been busy.

There is an aggressive campaign to get people to buy the hottest Halloween must-haves, instead of going with a re-run.

For parents, there is no wiggling out of spending money for trick or treating.

Even if money is tight you can transform yourself into anything you like for not a whole lot of money.

And during this recession, a break from reality may be just what you need.
