Foxy Brown gets one year in jail

Friday, September 07, 2007

Eyewitness News has learned that rap star Foxy Brown has been sentenced to one year in jail by a Brooklyn judge.

Criminal Court Judge Melissa Jackson sentenced the 28-year-old at a probation hearing.

The last time Brown was at criminal court was August 22, when she was sent to Rikers Island, where she has been for more than two weeks.

In court today, during the six-hour hearing, attorneys argued whether Foxy violated her three-year probabtion term, part of a plea for assaulting two manicurists at a Manhattan nail salon in 2004.

In a last ditch effort, Brown told the judge she realized being in jail is not where she wanted to be. But the judge didn't buy it, telling Foxy she stood in her position because of her own doing.

Brown's attorney argued that she wasn't a street person out there beating up people for money. Foxy again tried to apologize to the judge, who replied there were no more chances. Brown was led away, cuffed and shackled.

The judge said Foxy's biggest violation was not following through with her anger management classes.

Brown looked worn and tired in court. Her signature make up and long eyelashes were gone.

Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, was also indicted in Brooklyn today on charges that she assaulted a neighbor with a cell phone.

Foxy is now headed back to Riker's to serve her sentence. Her lawyer says he hopes the rapper only serves eight months, with time off for good behavior.
