Blood tests could measure brain trauma in athletes
March 8, 2013 -- A new study shows football players may experience long-term brain damage, even if they have not suffered a concussion.
Researchers at the Cleveland Clinic conducted tests on 67 college football players after each game.
In many of the player's bloodstreams, they found higher levels of a protein associated with Alzheimer's disease and epilepsy.
The report suggests that blood tests could be an inexpensive way to measure brain trauma in professional athletes.
