PEARL RIVER (WABC) -- It's a very special getaway for the kids who need it the most, a camp for children with cancer and their siblings a place where kids can just be kids.
The day begins with a luau at the new sunrise day camp in Pearl River New York.
Like most camps the activities are nonstop.
But all the stuff at this camp is for children with Cancer.
"The experience while having chemo it's one of the worse things that could happen to a person," said Eric Shprints.
The Sunrise Day Camp began on Long Island in 2006 now for the first time, it's expanding to Rockland County.
"Once we saw the impact on the children and the families which was so much more than we thought it would be all we wanted to do was build more of these," said Arnie Preminger, President and CEO Sunrise Day Camp.
It's funded primarily by donations and is completely free for children with cancer and their brothers and sisters.
The camp runs for 7 weeks for children age 3 to 16.
The kids can come and go-- if they're not feeling well, they can come back another day.
Their siblings can go the entire time.
All kids have to be referred by their medical doctor.
