(New York-WABC, February 6, 2006) (WABC) -- There's a new and very innovative way of taking your vitamins. Scientists have now created "vitamin clothes" -- clothes infused with nutrients that are absorbed into your body when you wear them.
Bizarre, yes. But many claim it works wonders. Eyewitness News Reporter Lauren Glassberg has the details.
If you've ever struggled with where to put your iPod, you might want to slip on a pair of these: the IBoxer -- boxer briefs with a little pocket for your iPod, mp3 player or even cell phone.
Each pair sells for $22 dollars and since the launch in November, the company's done $1 million dollars in sales. The women's version is due out this month as well.
Jeff Danzer, IBoxer Creator: "It's really the first underwear that really is functional for today's lifestyle."
And if you're looking for something more than just music from your undies, how about vitamins?
Under slacks, Philip Recchia is sporting a pair of vitamin laced underwear by Aussie Bum. The company says it has created a fabric that can hold liquid vitamins, and when the body heats up, those vitamins can be absorbed by the skin. They can even withstand 15 washings.
Philip was so intrigued by the concept, he wrote about it for the New York Post.
Recchia: "These babies are comfortable. When I first put them on it was sorta like Vicks Vaporub ... it was cooling and gentle."
But can your skivvies really provide you with the same benefits as eating fruits and veggies or taking supplements?
Julie Upton, Nutritionist: "It's very funny to say you have a vitamin laced pair of underwear. Is it going to do anything? No, probably not. But it's probably not going to hurt you either."
Universal Gear in Chelsea still plans to sell the Aussie Bum underwear because they understand the bottom line.
"It's not just about having clean underwear, it's about having fun underwear," a store clerk said.
