Bus driver accused of taping girl to seat

Thursday, April 13, 2006

A school bus driver in Queens is facing serious charges this morning for allegedly tying a seven-year-old girl to a seat.

Fifty-two-year-old Edwidge Jean was arraigned last night. Police say on the way home from PS 23 in Queens, he strapped the girl to the seat with seat belts, and taped her wrists together.

PS 23 treats children with emotional problems.

Jean reportedly told police the child was being unruly. His actions have sparked outrage.

Paula Lopez, Neighbor: "If I was a parent and somebody taped my kid to the school bus I wouldn't be able to control myself."

Jean resides in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. He has been charged with unlawful imprisonment, harassment and endangering the welfare of a child.
