NYC Beard and Moustache Championships

(New York -WABC, May 15, 2006) (WABC) -- Good Morning America was joined this morning by some elite competitors, guys who've been training for years. They are Beard Team U.S.A.

This is an historic moment for them in New York City because tomorrow evening is the first ever New York City Beard and Moustache Championships at the Knitting Factory in Tribeca.

Among the competitors: World champion Heinz Christophel of Germany, a three-time world champion in the full beard freestyle category, Phil Olsen, manager of the World Beard and Moustache Championships and championship hopeful Jack Passion.

There is also a fake moustache competition, and one of the competitors in that category, Ann Roberts, also joined GMA. The judging, however, is all subjective.

In addition, there is a new documentary called "Splitting Hairs" that follows the United States Beard and Moustache Team through Europe as it prepares to take on the dominant Association of German Beard Clubs at the World Beard and Moustache Championships.
