Violent night for Manhattan club scene

(Chelsea-WABC, July 2, 2006) (WABC) -- A wild night on the Manhattan nightclub scene turned violent. In one incident in Chelsea, a woman was shot.

There is a large number of popular clubs in the western edge of the Chelsea neighborhood. Hundreds of people go out here for a night of partying and dancing. Early Sunday morning, that party mood turned into something much more volatile.

On 27th Street, right off of 11th Avenue, a woman was shot in the leg. Police don't believe she was the intended target.

A few minutes after that a man was stabbed in a parking garage on 25th Street. He was with his friends when another group approached. A fight broke out and somebody plunged a knife in the victim's shoulder. The suspects took off. Police have not made any arrests in either of these incidents. The knife was left on the scene of the stabbing.

A majority of people from the nightclubs were spilling outside and onto the corner of 10th Avenue and 27th Street Sunday morning. A large fight broke out there.

Besides the large number of people in the area at the time, there are also a large number of surveillance cameras. Police hope something was caught on tape that will lead to an arrest.
