Corrections officer arrested for alleged shooting

Monday, July 03, 2006

Police say an off-duty corrections officer pulled out his gun and shot a man in the back after an argument over a car.

Now, 46-year-old Corey Cohen is under arrest and charged with two counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Investigators say the officer was off-duty when he allegedly used his department issued gun in the shooting of Louis Valentin.

Meanwhile, Valentin is recovering at Lutheran Hospital in Sunset Park where he is listed in stable condition.

Valentin spoke exclusively to Eyewitness News from his hospital bed.

"He pulled out a gun ... One thing led to another and he shoot me," he said.

The shooting took place on Stillwell Avenue in Bensonhurst.
