Grandmother murdered in her apartment

(Crown Heights-WABC, August 13, 2006) (WABC) -- In Crown Heights, neighbors and relatives were at a loss Sunday night. A 69-year-old woman was found strangled in her own home. There are indications she may have been murdered by someone she knew.

It was the woman's granddaughter who called police after Gloria Boney didn't answer the door or the telephone. She was found strangled on the floor of her bedroom.

"Everyone speaks of her so good. She was a kind person. A loving person," said Nakkazi Carter, the victim's granddaughter. "We have no idea who could have done this."

Relatives told us the apartment was in perfect order. There was nothing of value missing from the residence and there were no obvious signs of a break-in. That raises the possibility that the 69-year-old grandmother was murdered by someone she knew. Neighbors were at a loss.

"I don't know what happened, when it happened, how it happened, but it happened," the victim's neighbor, Ann Ahyoung said.

Gloria Boney lived alone in the apartment after moving to Brooklyn from Trinidad in 1990.

"I just hope they find who did this because she didn't deserve to go out like this," the granddaughter said.

Ms. Boney was well-known and well-liked in her neighborhood.

Anybody with any information about the murder is urged to call the NYPD.
