Young piano player making sweet music

Monday, October 23, 2006

Every once in a while we come across a child who is extraordinarily gifted. The one you are about to meet is a young boy from Oradell, New Jersey. He's a piano player who can tickle the ivories like a pro.

Eyewitness News' Jeff Pegues has the story.

At only 12 years-of-age, Drew Peterson already knows his destiny, a life dedicated to music.

He was born to play the piano. Drew is also a composer and studies conducting. Everything about music comes naturally to him.

Drew's mom says by the age of five her son could easily read music and started piano lessons.

Later that year, Drew was practicing for a recital at Carnegie Hall. He then went on to play the music festival in Tolentino, Italy.

Needless to say, his talent has gotten him noticed. He recently won a "Davidson Institute Scholarship", an award given to profoundly gifted students, for a project called "keeping classical music alive".

Drew also attends the exclusive "Manhattan School of Music", its precollege division. His piano teacher says what sets drew apart is how he feels the music.

Music Teacher: "Everything he plays comes from within."
