A child was killed and three others seriously injured in a collision between two SUVs in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn Wednesday.

Police say the victims, who were all pedestrians, were struck at the intersection of Flatbush Avenue and Glenwood Road.

Eyewitness News reporter Carolina Tarazona has the story.

Police say the driver of one SUV struck a mother and her three children on the sidewalk.

They say one of the children was killed on impact and left lying on the sidewalk as the driver allegedly tried to get away.

Investigators say a Ford Explorer was traveling southbound on Flatbush Avenue when it crashed into a black GMC Yukon just before 8 a.m.

The Explorer reportedly took down a parking meter and jumped a curb, striking the mother and her four kids. Police say a 5-year-old boy was killed instantly.

Authorities say the driver, a woman, tried leave the scene.

"She comes around illegally, hits the...black SUV, try to escape from that accident," witness Jean Pearson said. "She swerves and comes on the sidewalk and mauls down the whole family."

Eric Foranz says when he saw the woman drive off on Flatbush Avenue, he followed her in his van and stopped her a few blocks away.

That's when she supposedly had a heart attack.

"She no say nothing," Foranz said. "She just like she pass away like a heart attack. When I call 911, I told them someone have an accident and it look like they having heart attack behind the wheel."

Police say the 24-year-old mother is in critical condition at Kings County Hospital. Her 8-year-old son is listed in stable condition. Her 6-year-old little girl is also hospitalized, she is stable as well.

The accident is under investigation. The driver the SUV has been arrested and charged with criminally negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident.
