(Brooklyn - WABC, November 11, 2006) (WABC) -- A police-involved shooting is under investigation tonight.
Just minutes after officers pulled over a car and reportedly spotted a gun in the front seat, one cop was hit by the car and two people were shot. One of them is dead.
The events unfolded near Kings Highway and Avenue J in East Flatbush.
Eyewitness News reporter Carolina Tarazona has the latest.
This is still considered a major crime scene.
Police are hovering around the maroon Mitsubishi. That is one of the vehicles involved in this wild shooting.
Eyewitness News told that one of New York's finest is remain hospitalized and is recovering and one man was shot dead.
"It is hard because I have a 17-year-old daughter, and she is very close to him," victim's mother, Monique Butler, said. "And now I have to break the news to her."
Monique Butler says her son, 28-years-old, was shot and killed for no reason.
"He was a good father to his kids. He have four kids," Butler said. "The oldest one is eight and a set of twin girls who are three. And he got a two-month-old son."
But Police have a different version.
They say earlier this afternoon, a male and female team of plain clothes officers were traveling in a black car down Kings Highway when they spotted the maroon vehicle taking a red light.
Police said the officers pulled the driver over and saw this gun on the male driver.
Somehow a struggle broke out and the car backed up knocking the light pole on to the ground. Then the car lunched forward pinning the male officer between two cars.
Shots were fired and the driver of the maroon vehicle was shot and killed. The passenger in the vehicle was shot in the leg.
"I don't know what happened, and I'm not going to speculate what happened," Kim Alston, victim's in-law, said. "But, I know my son's uncle is dead and cop shot him dead."
Police said they are trying to obtain a search warrant for the Mitsubishi car.
Eyewitness News learned the officer who was pinned between the two cars is recuperating at the hospital. The passenger who was shot in the leg is in stable condition.
