Livery cabs involved in sexual assaults?

(New York-WABC, Nov. 21, 2006) (WABC) -- Two women were sexually assaulted in separate incidents, possibly both involving livery cabs on Sunday.

Eyewitness News has learned in the first, a 23-year-old woman hailing a cab in Greenwich Village was snatched off the street and sexually assaulted.

Police say the victim was trying to hail the cab at the corner of LaGuardia Place and Bleecker Street about 1:30 a.m. Sunday when a dark Sedan with at least two people inside pulled over. She was trying to hail a cab and she described a dark vehicle pulling up, but police said it was not clear if it was a cab.

The victim, according to police, was pushed into the backseat by an "unknown white male" and driven to a place she didn't recognize.

She was allegedly sexually assaulted and then dropped off sometime later on East 46th Street. She was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital for treatment.

Detectives were hoping the victim will be able to remember more when her shock fades, and possibly help with a sketch of the suspect.

Hours later, an 80-year-old woman is alleging she was sexually assaulted, apparently by a livery cab driver, in the Crotona Park East section of the Bronx.

The victim tell police she got into a vehicle she believed was a livery cab just before 5:30 p.m. The driver took her to a secluded location, where he sexually assaulted her.

Eyewitness News has learned she was then dropped off at the intersection of Southern Boulevard and Jennings Street.

The victim was able to help detectives compile a sketch of her attacker. He is 35 to 40 years old and has dark hair.
