Cops: Man killed over a parking space

(Brooklyn - WABC, December 1, 2006) (WABC) -- In Brooklyn, police believe a man was shot and killed after a fight over a parking space.

What's worse, the victim's pregnant wife was in the car when her husband was murdered.

Eyewitness News reporter Tim Fleischer is in East Flatbush with details.

It was a wild scene here on Friday. One man is dead as that parking dispute apparently took place out here on the street. But the feud, we're told, then moved into the New Hope Restaurant.

Crime scene investigators are still going through the New Hope Restaurant -- a popular Jamaican restaurant -- for clues to this shooting that left a 25-year-old man dead. His car is still sitting out on Flatbush Avenue where he parked it.

As women overcome with grief are consoled outside the restaurant, police say 25-year-old Ricardo Sterling had parked his car with his pregnant girlfriend and another child inside, and apparently got into an argument over a parking space with another man. The argument moved into the New Hope restaurant where police say Sterling pulled a knife on the man.

A third man then intervenes, investigators reveal, and when Sterling turns the knife on him, he pulls a gun and shoots Sterling once in the chest.

Brenda Graham and others are troubled by this.

"Life is so short now ... senseless things."

Police say the shooter ran from the restaurant and fled the area in a blue Jaguar.
